Lincolnshire has more wind turbines than anywhere else in the East Midlands, even though it consumes the least amount of electricity. The county continues to bear the burden for reaching the renewable energy targets for the region.
Now regional and Lincolnshire government officers have agreed to review the situation. Lincolnshire currently produces 63 percent of the onshore wind energy in the whole of the East Midlands. It also has the highest targets compared with areas including Leicestershire and Derbyshire.
Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire are currently not producing a single kW of onshore wind energy, even though they have targets lower than those given to Lincolnshire. Leicestershire and Rutland together are only producing 65kw per year, dramatically less than Lincolnshire's 34,010kw annual contribution.
Lincolnshire has some of the lowest CO2 emissions in the East Midlands.
