Baumber windfarm action group

formal opposition to plans intensifies

East Lindsey District Council has been seeking the views of Stautory Consultees as part of the planning process for the Baumber Windfarm proposal.
During October and Early November a number of key organisations have reaffirmed their objections to Enertrag's plans and have sited numerous reasons for refusing the plans. The impact of these strongly worded rejection letters is yet to be seen but it is very clear that these organisations are not impressed with the methods used by Enertrag UK and the inaccuracies shown in their approach to this application - many have written to this effect.

Enertrag has failed to pursuade these organisations and local people that this location is viable and that there has been a thorough evaluation of the site as a good place to gather energy from the wind rather than simply the availability of the land. Parish Councils, local land owners and residents have repeatedly reported that they have not been included in the pre application consultation process and that Enertrag has not engaged with the local community or professional organisations charged with protecting and enhancing the environment. All have expressed the undertsanding of obligations for increasing alternative energy sources but all have equally expressed that Baumber and the Vale of Lincoln is the wrong place for wind turbines.

Enertrag however shows no signs of engaging, attacks ELDC for questioning their dubious data and for taking too long to pass the plans.

"the ATC Advisor and his objection stands firm". "the proposed windfarm ... has been proved by ADATS DT that the turbines will have a detrimental impact on radar coverage and will produce 'false targets' on the watchman radar at raf coningsby, raf cranwell and raf waddington". "the proposed windfarm will have serious flight safety implications and a significant impact on operations at raf coningsby, raf cranwell and raf waddington..."

"Natural England Objects to the application because we believe that the application does not follow established practice in its landscape impact assessment methodology and consequently underplays the impact of the development". "we also object... as it could result in effects on bats that would have adverse implications for their local populations".

"The impact of the proposed wind turbine development on landscape character is a highly significant material consideration." "the lincolnshire wolds is a unique landscape and is one of only two nationally protected landscapes within the East Midlands... there should be no overriding national need for commercial wind farms to be located either within or adjacent to protected landcapes such as aonbs..."

"The proposed development will interrupt views of Lincoln Cathedral from the Wolds across the whole of the Witham Valley... The Cathedral is visible from most parts of the city as well as from a wide surrounding area including the approach roads to the city. In this context, it is important that any new development either within or beyond the city boundary should not adversely affect the dominance of the Cathedral on the skyline".

Is enertrag being honest ? "Photographing from the same locations and using identical parameters as those outlined in the application BWAG has determined that there are major discrepancies between the “visuals” presented by Enertrag UK Ltd and the reality of 125metre high structures..."
